Strategic Analysis on HP-Disney Alliance Introduction On October 9th 2003, Walt Disney Company, an international entertainment and media enterprise, and global technology provider Hewlett-Packard (HP) declared a ten-year strategic alliance for the purpose of developing innovative technologies and promoting Disney consumers’ experiences. The arrangement was achieved by jointly disclosing â€Å"Mission: Space† ride, which had been collaboratively designed and developed by HP and Disney employees for several years, reported by Business Wire (9 October, 2003). Mission: Space† was located in Walt Disney World Resort at Epcot theme park, Florida, including the following activities: Space Pavilion, Space Attraction, Space Advanced Training Lab and Space Cargo Bay. It was highly praised by Fiorina, then chief executive at HP, that the cooperation was based on both business expansion and technology development when HP wanted to recover from the business downturn and improv e its public image (Takahashi, 2003). They also estimated that of the USD 100 million cost on Mission: Space, HP will pay almost USD 50 million according to its 10 – year contract. So in the alliance each party negotiated to contribute equally on capital.Reported by Business Wire (11 September, 2007), Michael Mendenhall, who had been working in Disney as an executive for past 17 years, was employed as ‘senior vice president chief marketing officer’ by HP. From then on, Michael would be in charge of HP’s marketing operations as well as operations for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. Therefore, the relationship between the two companies would be closer than ever as Michael was experienced in both industries, and the continuing cooperation of Innoventions Dream Home proved that the alliance was under well management (China Business Newsweekly, 11, February 2008).Alliance Performance As referred in The Walt Disney Company Annual Report 2004 (2004), the revenues in parks and resorts segment for the fiscal year was USD 7,750 million. It increased by 21% compared with year 2003. The report stated that the Walt Disney World Resort drove USD 609 million of the total increase, which was attributed to high theme park attendance, reflecting the continued success of Mission: Space as well as the success of the alliance (Appendix 1). Meanwhile, Hewlett-Packard Company Annual Report 2005 (2005) also eported a total net revenue increase in 2004, from USD 58,799 million in 2003 to USD 64,046 million (Appendix 2). Therefore, from financial perspective, both companies were successful during the following one to two years after they formed the alliance. From objective and perceptual aspects, the HP and Disney alliance was also successful. When Mission: Space ride first opened, the continuing promo attracted more than 1. 1 million tourists and the ride still drawing more and more customers every year (Camp, 2004).HP’s Karen Jones believed that the alliance was the greatest combination to two famous brands and it success was because of the effort and time that HP and Disney had put into (Camp, 2004). Evaluation of the Alliance Personally I believed the alliance was a breakthrough for both companies, especially when the US economy was suffering recession in the early 2000s.The alliance started with a good design beca use HP and Disney knew what contribution each party could bring. A parent can paraphrase the child’s words and speak them over again to show that he or she has understood. In such a way the parents can understand what their children are going through after their divorce. They could be angry or even fearful. Indirect communication Divorce issues can be very complex for young children to understand. Children can be explained to using indirect means of communication. Story telling, use of dolls and drawings can help in passing across the message. Story telling can be very effective in communicating to the very small children A parent can tell a story about children who went through such an issue. How they missed their mum or dad and the way they coped. This helps children to know that they are not just the only ones who go through such issues of parents divorcing. Through this parents will always learn what their children feel about the divorce. The parent that is staying with the children should help them to cope with the matters at hand. When the right communication styles are used in a marriage, divorce can be avoided. Some of this communication styles always trigger people to divorce. Criticism There are some partners who never see anything positive in their spouses. They only see the negatives. Criticism speech between spouses makes them have low self esteem. Women are more prone to this and it may aggravate divorce. Defensiveness Some married men and women are quite defensive when they make mistakes in marriage. They are just not responsible for their actions. This is not right style of communication and such characters influence people to divorce. Roles During the process o divorce parents should spell out clearly each individual’s roles and duties in the family. In case, if children are present, where they will stay. There are instances where the wife may have really valued the role of the husband in taking care of the family needs. When divorce occurs such women will more often than not devalue the role of their partners. When people go through divorce, there are those that neglect their roles as fathers or mothers. The very fact that the man and the wife are no longer married does not mean that they cease to be mothers to their children or parents in general. In such circumstances, the children suffer and yet they are not the cause to the divorcing of their parents. There are some parents who neglect their family roles when they are married hence leading to divorce. A woman whose husband is less concerned about his roles and duties will opt for divorce. Boundaries After a couple divorcing, there are boundaries that are set between the two that they are not supposed to cross. One of the boundaries involves intimacy. They can put this boundary in such a way that none of the two has the right to demand for his or her conjugal rights. Most women who divorce from a conflicting marriage mostly bar the husband from seeing the children. This can be very traumatizing to the man. There are also boundaries that are put concerning the right to property. Before a divorce occurred a woman may have had the right to use his husband’s car. After divorce, a boundary is put that in case she uses the car she will have gone too far. In such a case the man can even take a legal action against her. In this twenty first century, people are crossing boundaries to marry men and women from other ethnic groups. There are high rates of interracial marriages. Research shows that such marriages have got high divorce rates. Alliances There are so many alliances that exist in the world today. Divorce in today’s society has really increased leading to families forming associations. These associations help the divorcees to cope after the divorce. Such associations normally consist of families that have gone through the same. The individuals are comforted and encouraged to go on with life. Resiliency This is simply bouncing back or coming back to normal operations. After divorce happening to a family, it may not come back to normal immediately. A divorcee may find it hard to forget his partner. Divorce in itself makes the parties to go through moments of pain, especially the emotional one. Some of the separations come along with traumatic grief on the individuals. Especially if a person still loves the other partner. Coming to terms with reality in such a case may not be easy for any one. Some people in order to come back to their old self may have some denial or rigid defenses. Professionals like counselors always help the individuals to regain there self worth in the society. This is because divorce makes people feel very useless, unwanted and unappreciated in the society. Other family friend and members should help the divorcees to come back to their normal self. It is good to note that people regain at different rates. There are some that may bounce back to their normal self very fast. Others take quite a long time to come to terms with reality. People who accept that it happened will always regain very fast. Metaphor This is simply figurative language that describes an issue or a topic. In conjunction to the topic of divorce here is a metaphor to reflect a family dealing with it. Example Once upon a time there was a farmer who lived in Drasel village. He was very hard working and everybody admired this. The farmer was known as Mr. Tim. He had a very good cow which he had named Lando. Mr Tim really loved his one and only cow, Lando. He usually woke up very early to cut Napier grass for his cow. This is because he really loved his cow. He could milk his cow at exactly five a. m. Lando was a very productive animal. He would give Mr. Tim fifteen litters of milk. This made him a very happy man. He would brag about his cow to the villagers. This went on for the first two weeks. After this things really changed. Lando simply refused to produce milk. Mr. Tim tried all that he could but to no avail. He brought more Napier grass for Lando and sprayed her every day. He even cleaned Lando each day but nothing seemed to please him. Instead Lando would kick him hard whenever he moved closer. Soon the villagers started to laugh at Tim. He was ashamed of his one and only cow. So what is the need of keeping a cow which doesn’t produce milk? Tim kept on asking himself. After all I can get another one! This is exactly what he did. He sold the cow and bought another one. Explanation Tim represents a husband while Lando in this case is the wife. When they were newly married the wife was very good. She treated her husband well and bore him children. The husband was good to her throughout this period. He gives her enough money, cares for her and shows his love for her. He even brags about his sweet wife to the villagers. After sometime the wife changes completely. She becomes rude to her husband. The husband continues to be caring, loving and to provide for her. She even refuses to conceive claiming the children are enough! The man becomes a laughing stock in the village. He considers divorcing her. According to him, his wife is no longer worth the marriage. After all, women are very available. That is exactly what he does. This metaphor illustrates the causes of divorce in many marriages. What I have learnt To be sincere this subject has taught me a lot. I am now fully aware of the things that can cause divorce. I have learnt how I can deal with loss of my partner through divorce. God forbid, I pray that it never happens! The issue of communication styles has been of help to me. I hope to implement them in my personal relationships. I can now understand what divorcees go through in relation to their self esteem. I hope to be of great help to them in dealing with this. Questions for research This subject should have further research carried out. One of the questions is; what is the relationship of technopoly to divorce in the twenty first century? Technopoly is simply the surrender of society to technological advancement. An example is the internet and sex technologies. The other question is; what is the relationship between traditional culture and divorce in today’s society. In relation to this, one can find out if men and women still embrace the traditional culture and how this is affecting the divorce rates. The last question is; why are divorce rates high in developed nations as compared to the developing countries. This will include the factors that are affecting the different rates. Conclusion Divorce rates have really increased since the twenty first century. It is defined as the dissolution of marriage while both parties are still alive. This has become such a challenge to most families. Dealing with loss in case of divorce can be hard. People who go through it need professional counseling. Some people even lose their identity and this mostly affects women. People should assist such families to be resilient as soon as possible. It is not an easy thing to deal with divorce. Married people should learn the best communication styles to pass across information to partners. People need to be educated on the importance of marriage and the negative effects of divorce on families. The universe is very vast The Scale of the Universe The Universe is very vast. Many unanswered questions of life lay hidden beneath this place so unfamiliar to our society. This mysterious dark sky that we are floating in is supposedly constantly expanding to no end. Is there an edge? Well apparently there is no center to this expansion nor is there a fixed scale we know of. Its just an overall expansion everywhere merging into one another and only getting vaster. Will it ever stop expanding, or is there constant velocity acting on things all over, due to gravitational pulls coming from everywhere? The Big Bang which is supposedly the cause of the world we live in today was no ordinary explosion. According to studies from Edwin Hubble in 1929, there is no centre of the universe. These are many questions and statements that are yet to be answered and further investigated. We have come up with many assumptions in which many make sense but what is the truth behind all of this? Nuclear physics may have the answer to many of these question s. I find this topic most interesting simply because of the endless conclusions we can come up with, and the way things have been left so unsolved intrigues me. The Universe is defiantly immense. Earth is a planet in a solar system that is in a galaxy that lies in the Universe. Could the universe be within something too? A Multiverse or an omniverse, so in this case scenario our universe is just one of many others although in English connotation Universe implies everything beyond. The Compact Oxford Dictionary defines the Universe as all existing matter and space considered as a whole; the cosmos. We would like to be able to give the Universe a scale but in order to do so we would have to know the content of everything within it. Throughout history our society has come with many conclusions to try to understand where and how we are situated in our solar system, in the galaxy and now in the universe. People used to think that the Earth was the centre of the Universe and that everything revolved around it. We were wrong. Earth and the other planets in our solar system revolve around the sun. We later deduced that the sun was the center of ever ything and that things revolved around it. Once again this was false. It turns out that there are many solar systems in our galaxy and many suns. We then thought that our galaxy was everything. As a result we were wrong again, there are many other galaxies. All of these are wrong statements, we may still be wrong today. There are as many galaxies or even more in the Universe as there are stars in our own galaxy. There are even clusters of galaxies and clusters of clusters which are called Superclusters which make up the Universe. We would love to give the universe a scale but we can only determine the edge by what light beams have been able to travel past, thus the distance is calculated in time taken by a light ray. The extent of what we can see in the Universe would take 15billion years at light speed to reach that area. We see no further since light has not traveled that far yet. We assumed that the Universe is constantly expanding and over time different factors will affect things. Here is a graph that shows the scale of the Universe versus time. The graph shows three factors that supposedly contribute to the Universes expansion: Constant Dark Energy, Big Rip Big Crunch is what scientists see as the expansion of the Universe and its fate. The curve determines in what way the Universe is expanding. If we look at the graph carefully it states that at the beginning of times, things were created by this mysterious Big Bang. Eventually these three components (Big Rip, Constant Dark Energy and Big Crunch) started to increase. The Universe was expanding (Big Crunch), the amount of dark energy was increasing and things were constantly being split into pieces, divided and chopped due to the theory of Big Rip. Things have stayed this way till present time but eventually in the future scientists predict that due to this constant effect of the Big Rip the Universe would eventually collapse which is stated by the down curve of the Big Crunch. All in all scientists predict an eventual implosion of the entire Universe, due to its constant expansion which is supposedly being expanded by shreds of particles being ripped apart. Is there a definite scale to the Universe? We cannot tell but we assume that it is constantly expanding. I would have thought that we are under the illusion of this expansion and that it is simply that we cannot see further since light rays have not traveled that far for us to be able to see any further. My theory can be proven since the furthest we can see has taken a ray of light to travel all that distance since the big bang. What I believe is that there is something faster than the speed of light and the explosion of the Big Bang has brought things further away faster than a ray of light can travel. I believe that there is no existence over there but there is matter, atoms and particles. If I believe what scientist say I could assume that the distance of the Universe is 15billion light years. The di stance a light ray has traveled since the Big Bang. This is possible since the speed of light in Einsteins theory of relativity is only an axiom on which he basses the rest of his theory. Essay on the Death of Freedom in Kate Chopins The Story of an Hour

Death of Freedom in The Story of an Hour In Kate Chopin’s short story, "The Story of an Hour," we are told that Mrs. Mallard, the main character, has a heart condition. Then Mrs. Mallard’s sister, Josephine, tells her Mr. Mallard died in a railroad disaster. At the end of the story, Mrs. Mallard dies when her husband suddenly walks through the door. The doctor says that Mrs. Mallard died "of heart disease—of joy that kills" (Chopin 27). Some people may agree with the doctor’s diagnosis, but I think he was wrong. I believe that Mrs. Mallard’s death was not because she was happy to see her husband, but because she was sad about the loss of her newly-found freedom. I also think Mrs. Mallard realized that love is not a substitute for the freedom to live your own life. Throughout this short story there are examples showing how Mrs. Mallard’s actions and ideas are focused on her freedom. There are also thoughts and ideas that show Mrs. Mallard realizing that love is by no means a substitute for independence. When Mrs. Mallard was told of her husband’s death she "did not hear the story as many women have heard the same, with a paralyzed inability to accept its significance" (Chopin 25). This shows that Mrs. Mallard was not utterly grief-stricken or she would have had this so-called "glazed-over look." She also did not deny her husband’s death, which is another natural reaction to the loss of someone you deeply care about. After Mrs. Mallard is told of her husband’s death, she retreats into her bedroom. The scenery outside is not one of death, but one of life. This is how Chopin describes the scenery while Mrs. Mallard is looking out her bedroom window: she "could see in the open square before her house the tops of tr... ...Mrs. Mallard’s husband walks in the front door. She looks at her husband, but all she can see is her newly-found freedom slipping away. Can you imagine the loss of such a thing as your freedom? Mrs. Mallard had just realized that she had her independence, when it was taken from her suddenly. I think the loss independence can be fatal, and in Mrs. Mallard’s case it was. After Mrs. Mallard dies, the doctor incorrectly diagnoses her death as "joy that kills." What is death? Looking up the meaning in the dictionary would probably read â€Å"the loss of life† or â€Å"ceasing of all vital functions†. As human beings the word could mean one of many things depending on what you believe in. To most of humanity throughout history it meant the end of a life, to others a shortcut to avoid the inevitable, or even what might be the beginning of something new. Unfortunately, today in our modern time our conception of death has changed drastically throughout history. Many like you and me will never truly understand death’s true meaning unless experienced firsthand. â€Å"The subject of death is shrouded in mystery, folklore, and different meanings from every culture on this planet†. Although death should not be something to be feared, for it’s a natural part of life. Nevertheless it shouldn’t be taken lightly; it could happen to any of us at any moment, but it shouldn’t stop you from living your life to the fullest and making every last second count. â€Å"Throughout history, specific cultural contexts have always played a crucial role in how people perceived death. Different societies have held widely diverging views on the â€Å"breath of life† and on â€Å"how the soul left the body† at the time of death.† In the past, death was embraced and was believed to be caused by some sort of divine intervention. In ancient Egypt, Egyptians believed that preparing for their death will allow them to cross into the afterlife. It was popular amongst the people even the Pharos of Egypt would undergo a mummification process and be buried with their belongings to ensure their place in the afterlife. Composition and literature December, 1, 2010 Film: â€Å"Black Orpheus â€Å" Marcel Camus The film black Orpheus portrayed some of the essential elements of the ancient myth very well and in a peculiar matter. Whiles watching the movie certain parts of the myth were very different and not depicted well. There were three parts of the movie in which really caught my eye in which had deviated from the myth. They were Orpheus and Eurydice initial relationship, the role of death and Hades. These three factors deviated slightly than the original Greek myth.In the original myth Orpheus and Eurydice were originally together and everyone was happy for their love. Their relationship was blossoming and all was good till a snake bite Eurydice and she dies. In the film† black Orpheus† on the other hand Orpheus and Eurydice are strangers and Orpheus is engaged to Mira. There are a lot of struggles before they are finally able to get together. In the myth everyone is happy for their love in the movie though they spend so much time trying to hide from Mira. In the ancient myth death was represented through the snake, which just bit Eurydice. n the movie death was a reoccurring figure in which continually kept searching for Eurydice. Death in the movie even was able to warn Mira not to harm Eurydice claiming she was his property . In the movie death was given too much power compared to the ancient myth. in the movie death continually haunted Eurydice eventually causing her own death. In the myth she was not haunted by death she just got bitten by the snake and died. In the film death was given too much power. The third and final thing that wasn’t well depicted in the movie was the role of Hades.In the original myth Orpheus goes down to the underworld with Hades and through music convinces the whole under world to allow him take Eurydice back to the world of the living. In the film Hades is represented as a mere janitor. Orpheus never tries convincing the j anitor though music. The janitor feels pity on him and leads him to the Macomb ritual. In the myth Hades is the only person who has the main say on whether Eurydice can leave the underworld and it takes much convincing though great music from Orpheus .In the film Hades level of respect and honor has been reduced to a mere janitor who doesn’t provide Orpheus with the answer but actually leads him to those who can help . The relationship between Orpheus and Eurydice, the role of death and Hades were all poorly depicted in this movie. It was a great attempt but one watching the film without knowing the myth might be confused about the original myth. The film could have made better attempts at making these three things more like the ancient myth. The film attempted to capture the significance of the myth but failed in actually conveying that to its viewers.

Taylor Adams Prof. C Comp. 1 7 November 2008 Disney â€Å"All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them† (Disney). This famous quote was made by a enormous dreamer that has bridged the idea for one of the most successful companies in the world. Walt Disney, theme parks, movies, jobs, and many other attributes make up this gigantic company. Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago Illinois and died on December 15, 1966 in Los Angeles California. Walt’s father, Elias Disney, was an Irish-Canadian and his mother, Flora Call Disney, was German-American.Disney was born into a family of five where he was one of the four boys and one girl. While Walt was being brought up on a farm he learned his interest in drawing. After this discovery he contributed to his school paper in Chicago with his artsy talents and during the night he attended the Academy of Fine Arts. During 1918 Disney enlisted in the military but was reject so then joined t he Red Cross as an ambulance driver but never gave up his interest in drawing. When he returned to Kansas City he started his career as an advertising cartoonist where his business grew little by little.On July 13, 1925 Walt married Lillian Bounds who was one of his employees. After their marriage they had two daughters, Diane and Sharron. Both of their daughter’s husbands where greatly involved with the Disney company, holding the positions of chief executive officer and a board of director. In 1928, Walt brought to life the most important character of the company Disney, Mickey Mouse. After Mickey was born opportunities broke out for everything. Walt Disney left the door open for billions of ideas that in turn making billions of families happy day in and day out around the globe.The most entertaining idea of the Disney company for people of all ages to have a good time is at its theme parks. The first park that was opened in 1965 in Orlando Florida was called EPCOT, standin g for Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow. This theme park is primarily based on all the different countries uniting together. When first walking into EPCOT a guest will see the favorite attraction, a huge white globe that looks like a golf ball, which inside is a ride that shows how our country have evolved. Around the lake in the back guests can visit different buildings which look like a guest is actually in the country.The countries include Germany, China, Japan, America, Norway, France, Ireland, England, and Mexico. Other amusing rides that EPCOT holds are Mission Space, Test Track, Finding Nemo, and several more. Another one of the six theme parks in Orlando is Magic Kingdom which opened, October 1, 1971. This park includes the famous, Cinderella Castle where Mickey and his friends put on shows hourly and Tinker Bell, another famous character flies from the top to the ground while a spectacular fireworks show goes off. Attractions include Pirates of the Caribbean, Sno w White, Thunder Mountain, Space Mountain, and plenty of other forms of entertainment.Hollywood Studios opened May 1, 1989. This film based theme park is any future directors dream palace or anyone else who wants to have a good time! Many attractions in this park are based on how Disney movies and shows are created. Guests can ride behind the scenes to see how these magical films come to life. The two biggest hit rides at Hollywood studios are Tower of Terror, which puts you in an elevator that brings you up several stories and drops you numerous times in the dark and Rockin Roller Coaster, which is based on the hit band Aerosmith.While doing loops and drops at high speeds on the coaster there are built in speakers that play the band’s music the entire journey. The last theme park that is not a water park is Animal Kingdom, which was established on April 22, 1998. This favorite park is combined with different continents and based on animals. The zoo-like park has many differe nt stops where you can see exotic animals. The new and biggest ride in Animal Kingdom is Mount Everest. Guests climb a huge hill while being chased by a yeti then fall backwards down it. Other enjoyable rides are the Kilimanjaro Safari and Dinosaur.Then Orlando consists of two exhilarating water parks, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. Blizzard Beach is based on a snowed in ski resort that has many water rides and a lazy river. The highest ride is Summit Plummet which is a body slide that guest drop directly down on. Typhoon Lagoon also has tons of attractions but the wave pool is by far the biggest and strongest around. There is also Disney parks in Tokyo, France and Los Angeles California. â€Å"You’ve got a friend in me†(Toy Story)! The next contribution to the Disney company is its’ movies. Children all around the world grow up to Walt’s creations and themes.In 1929, December 1, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was appeared in a theater in Los Angeles . People could not fabricate the fact that there was going to be a full fill that was animated and therefore had bad thoughts. Surprisingly it was a success. People were begging for more films. Hundreds of more films were made by the Disney company and still are going strong today. Some examples are The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, The Jungle Book, and Cinderella. All of these movies tell colorful stories to children with a moral in each. Disney movies can bring families together and keep children entertained if needed.Either way of use, Disney movies are a huge part of the Disney Company. Disney movies are also tied into the theme parks. The rides are based on specific parts of special movies. â€Å"I would rather entertain and hope that people learned something than educate people and hope they were entertained†(Disney). â€Å"I'd say it's been my biggest problem all my life†¦ it's money. It takes a lot of money to make these dreams come true† (Disney). How could this successful company run without it is workers? It simply could not. The workers of this company make the magic come true for Disney guests.Opportunities for Disney jobs are sought after by many people. Various jobs are offered throughout the parks, hotels and shops that include but not limited to janitorial duties, merchandise sales, guest services, recreational workers, ride operators, bellman and valets. All employees are expected to smile and follow a specific dress code. Each specific job requires a certain outfit. Training for each job can be as short as a week and as long as a month depending on the field and difficulty. Disney is an equal opportunity employer and offer many benefits to its employees that many other businesses do not offer.Disney is very focused on the safety of its guests. Every Disney employee must go through a safety orientation that lasts approximately eight hours. When first walking into EPCOT a guest will see the favorite attraction, a huge white globe that looks like a golf ball, which inside is a ride that shows how our country have evolved. Around the lake in the back guests can visit different buildings which look like a guest is actually in the country.The countries include Germany, China, Japan, America, Norway, France, Ireland, England, and Mexico. Other amusing rides that EPCOT holds are Mission Space, Test Track, Finding Nemo, and several more. Another one of the six theme parks in Orlando is Magic Kingdom which opened, October 1, 1971. This park includes the famous, Cinderella Castle where Mickey and his friends put on shows hourly and Tinker Bell, another famous character flies from the top to the ground while a spectacular fireworks show goes off. Prison Violence Essay

Prison violence is something that has been an ongoing problem and can be seen in many different forms. It happens in men, woman and juvenile facilities. The level of violence and severity can differ but it is all categorized as prison violence and has become an increasingly major issue on the U.S. It is safe to say people tend to believe males are more prone to violence making violence in male prisons have higher rates than female prisons. Some research indicates women prisoners, unlike men prisoners, do not engage in physical violence (Trammell 2009). They engage in relational violence which is like gossiping and spreading rumors to make each other feel isolated and outcast. Another type is sexual violence such as assault/rape/harassment experiences reported by both male and female prisoners. Male sexual violence involves more force due to the fact of strength and more aggressiveness which is male nature. Male prisoners are subjected to more physical injury and have more excessive f orce used on them so in return the level of aggressiveness is heightened. This is a main factor as to why they try to stop being victims and become the perpetrators and also why violence rates are higher in male prisons. The third issue that contributes in the understanding which gender has higher violent rates in prison is prisoner confrontations and the search for respect. From all of the factors this factor is very unique because it deals with the physiological part of violence. Furthermore, this issue is very important because it shows that physical straight is not the only thing that contributes to violence in prisons, but the psychological factor has a lot to do with it as well. Research has found that prisoners engage in violence for varies reason. I addition, prisoners who have a positive and a stable social interaction tend to engage the least in fights. On the other hand those who have weak and problematic social interaction have more fights with others prisoners (Butler, 2008). In addition, Butler (2008) pointed out found that prisoners that engage in act violence tent to think they have to prove their masculinity by showing their aggression. Furthermore, these types of prisoners have the psychological need to defend this identity. Theses prisoners will react taught when they feel that they are being ostracized, embarrassed, or disrespected. This issue relates to the topic because depending how the inmates feels, the rate of violence can go up or it can come down. The Butler (2008) study presented reasons as to why do  male prisoners are violent in prison. In contract it illustrated what are some of the reason why might male prisons have more violent rates than female prisons. Victimization rates Research done by Wolff, Blitz, Shi and Siegel (2006) found that similar information to other studies. They point out that inmate on inmate sexual victimizations were higher in women prisons than men prisons during the first 6 months of research. Furthermore, nonsensical sexual acts (e.g. forced sex acts) were not as common as abusive sexual contact (e.g. intentional touching), between prisons and staff in the correctional facility. In addition, the scholars point out that depending on the rates of victimization that is how violent the inmate will become. It all depends on which gender is being victimized. In this study the prison staff was victimizing the males. Similarities All of the articles I used to answer the research question had similar founding’s. In addition, all of the empirical articles I found contributed to finding an answer to my research question, which made the date very applicable. However, there were differences and similarities between literatures. Some of the similarities were that most of the articles used a larger size sample of the male prisoners than for the female prisoners in their research. However, with the exception of Trammell (2008) study since it only dealt with female prisoners. Another similarity I found was between Wolff, Shi, and Siegel (2009) and Wolff, Shi, and Bachman (2009) both of these study used the same sample size, 12 adult correctional facilities and one female adult correctional facility. In addition, both studies collected their data in the same state. Furthermore, both study used the same method of research, which was using the Administered Survey Instruction (CASI) to collect their data. Furthermo re, the other empirical literature I used anonymous written assessments, interviews and self-narratives to gain their data (Butler, 2008) Relationship to research All of the scholarly articles I used for this paper were related to one another. Whether it was in a psychological way, victimization rates, respect in prison, or relational violence. All of these issues tied up nicely to  answer the research question. Wolff et all (2006), Wolff et all (2009) and Wolff et al (2008) studies can be put together because they all focused on the rates of victimization in prisons and how it affects the inmates. All of the articles found that depending on the rates of victimization of the behalf of the male and female prisoners, it will show how much aggression the prisoner will engage in. Furthermore, they found that the prison staff victimizes men unlike women; As a consequence the men get in to more fights, which increase the violent rates in male prisons. Research indicates that male inmate have the physiological idea that they need to protect their identity in prison. As a consequence this leads the prisoners to get into more confrontations with other prisoners and with staff at times. In addition, when male inmates feel that they are being embarrassed or ostracized they will act aggressively. However, female inmates are completely opposite instead of physical altercations they will engage in gossip to hurt each other (Butler, 2008) Trammell (2008) research only was based on women correctional facilities, which made it very unique and significant to my paper. Most of the scholarly articles I found were only based on men prisons, but this study focused only on what type of violence is females more consistent with, which was spreading rumors. The theme that is being discussed in this paper is comparing the violent rates between women and men prisons. However, relational violence is not included in the rate of violence unlike aggression is. As a result this lowers the rates of violence in the female prisons. Research conducted Johnson and Johnson (2006) compared the sexual coercion experience between male and female prisons. This factor contributes to the violent rates in correctional facilities. The scholars found that depending on how many experiences of sexual coercion the prisoners take part of, the more it leads to violence making him or her perpetrator. This study also found that men are face more violence sexual coercion compared to women. Consequently the rates of violence in male prisons rise up. Discussion All empirical research provided good data analyses that collaborates with the founding’s. In my opinion the most interesting article I found during my research was the study conducted m Johnson and Johnson (2009) because this study point out that sexual coercion is more commend in male prisons rather  than female prisons. Before doing the research I always thought it was the other way around. My original thoughts about this information I researched were that it was good information to answer the research question. During my research I was trying to find some variables that can help explain what encourages both male and female prisoners to engage in violence. I concur with most of the empirical information I found. All of the articles had something in commend for example, the number male prisons that took part in the study and/or the sample sizes. In addition, as I kept on reading the literature all of the data found were corroborated. Furthermore, all of the scholars found similar information such as, male are more aggressive because they have to go through more violent sexual coercion and as a consequence they fight to protect their â€Å"masculinity†. Moreover all of the information I found has important key issues that proved that male prisoners have more violent rates than female prisons. As a result, all of the articles contribute in answering the research question. However, what I didn’t like about the empirical articles is that the scholars hardly research female prisons. For example, the scholars would use 12 male prisons and only one female prison to compare their violent rates. In my opinion this is extremely unfair because the researcher collects more data for male inmates and not enough for female inmates. Moreover in order, to have more applicable information there needs to be the same number of male and female prisons studied. What I learn doing this research is that in female prisons r ape is very rare. However, this does not necessary mean that female prisoners do not engage in any sexual activities. Research indicated that instead of actual force penetration, the inmates touch breasts and generals. Furthermore, female prisoners do not get molested buy the staff, but rather by the other prisoners (Trammell, 2009). Moreover what I also learn from this research is that females engage in trash talking and spreading rumors to hurt the other prisoners. Before doing this paper I thought that female inmates engage in physical fights like male inmates, but to my surprise they rather spread rumors. Some female inmates reported that spreading rumors hurt more than actual punches. Furthermore, I learn that female inmates fight over guards. They treat the guarders has their boyfriends this gives them extra privileges such as, better jobs and more food. In addition, if the female seeing other female flirting with her â€Å"boyfriend†(guard) she will  spread rumors about that female to get her in trouble. (Trammell, 2009) Conclusion The topic being discussed in this paper was the rate of violence in male and female prisons. All of the empirical articles that I found contribute in finding the answer to my research question. Furthermore, the main focus of this paper was to report if the rates of violence were higher in male or female prisons and why that was the case. After doing all of the research, I found that men prisons have higher violent rates of violence rather than women prisons. It was proven that a lot of variable contribute to higher rates of violence in men prisons such as males under go more sexual coercion, have high rates of victimization, and they look to gain respect in prison. Moreover overall the articles regarding this topic were helpful and applicable. In addition, the articles illustrated the variable of why? How? , And when? do prisoners engage in violence and how does this raise the violent rates in the correctional facility. Even though all of the studies were helpful in writing this paper, more research should be performed regarding this topic. There should be more research that only focuses on female inmates. This can give the general public a better understanding on female prisons. In addition, it can inform on what type of violence female inmates engage in with more detail. Limitation I was only allowed to use six empirical articles to answer my research question. In addition, none of my friends or family members has spend time in prison. So I was not able to interview someone that has witness violence while in prison. Furthermore , in all of the literature I found authors focused more in the male prison rather then the female prisons. As a consequence this could off manipulate the data that indicates that male prisoners engage in more violence. I think if the authors would of concentrate in male and female prisons equally the findings would off probably show that the rates of violence for both male and female inmates are somewhat the same.

Essay about social medias Essay

In this essay we hear about Roger Scruton’s thoughts on social Medias. Most of his opinions on social Medias are negative, and only a few things are positive. He doesn’t think that this is how we should live our lives, and I agree completely. But we also have to look at the positive things. For instance think about how amazing it is to communicate with another person on the other side of the world. We learn new cultures much faster, and can communicate with people in other countries. One of my examples is something I have experienced in real life: About 5 years ago I met a Chinese boy in a hotel in Phuket, Thailand. We became good friends and enjoyed each other’s company for two weeks during our vacation. Just before I had to go home, I got his Email address, and within a week we could talk through MSN (Microsoft Messenger). This is what I think is amazing about social medias, and I think Roger Scruton has left out some of these advantages in his article. We just have to take small cautious steps, so we can discover new things, and new ways to communicate without ruining the normal social way to communicate face to face. It is important to remember that through a computer- screen you cannot see each other’s feelings and always understand the other persons reactions. When communicating through a computer, it is very important that you trust the person whom you are communicating with, and it is difficult to count on/ and believe in someone who is sitting on the other side of the grid, instead of sitting face to face with the person. And then again†¦. Big companies would never be able to expand as fast as they do today without the Internet. Big business deals can be signed from the vest to china and back, and we have the amazing industrial development, which we never would be able to have without grid and the on-line communication. Sometimes people just have to take a step back and but their phones and computers in the drawer and go out and meet people. Last week we were with the new beginner classes from Knord on an introduction tour. We stayed in a house south of Kà ¸ge with no internet or connection to the online net. It was amazing to see how desperate people were. Even I was running around each day to get net, and our teachers complained. Adult with 30- 40 years of experience wanted Internet so desperately. If people get that desperate and addicted to the internet it has certainly taken over our world. Sometimes things can be too virtual, and here we have to be careful. Virtual sex, virtual dates and virtual shopping is dangerous, because when we keep on being in the virtual world, one day we will not be able to see the difference between this and the real world. As Roger says in the article that real life involves taking risks, it helps in times needed, being joyful in times of celebrating together. This is what makes us special. Communication through body language, sounds and language is what makes the difference to the virtual world. We will never be able to have the same feelings and emotions through a screen, and because of that we have to make a distance to the grid. We should use it as a tool and not as a second chance in the world, were we can hide in our rooms and still communicate with everybody.

If proper treatment is not given to DCIS then, the cells will invade all the ducts and cause cancer. It is not true that DCIS will get converted into cancer. But DCIS can develop into cancer if proper treatment is not given to them.1 Introduction: Breast carcinoma is a type of cancer that develops at the breast. This cancer is either invasive or noninvasive. The non invasive carcinoma is of two types. They are ductal carcinoma and lobular carcinoma. Ductal adenocarcinoma refers to the occurrence of cancerous cells at the ducts. The cancerous cells are found at the linings of the ducts. They lack the ability to spread from one type of cell to another. This is the main reason for calling it as pre-cancer. There are three level of DCIS : low grade, intermediate and high grade DCIS. Clinical features: In US, around 200,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer. The risk factors vary between the individuals. The statisti cal analysis has concluded that there is no single factor that develops breast cancer but there are many factors that increase the risk of breast cancer in women. Some of them are increasing age, history of the family, previous history of breast cancer, biopsy abnormalities, heavy exposure to radiation, pregnancy and breast feeding ( for women of age > 30 during pregnancy) and hormone replacement therapy. 2 Of these risk factors age, family history and the history of breast cancer are said to be very high risk factors. The increase in age is one of the most important factors that increase the risk. The studies have found that women of age greater than 50 are prone to more risk than the women of age 40. The risk percentage is 85 and 5 respectively. The women, who have never given birth to a child, face greater risks at the time of menopause. The age during the first child birth should be less than 28 years. The risk for breast cancer increases if the first child birth is after 30 yea rs. Similarly the hormonal replacement therapy is also found to be another reason for the breast cancer. The glandular tissue of the women are replaced by the fat during menopause time, when hormone therapy is done for these patients, they are more prone for the breast cancer. Radiation therapy is another reason for the development of breast cancer. Heavy exposure to radiation at the chest region as a part of cancer therapy or some other reason increases the risk. The Ductal carcinoma is usually asymptomatic. The symptoms for the occurrence of DCIS are nipple inversion, dimpling of the breast skin, nipple discharge and presence of lump in the underarm area. The symptom of DCIS is usually the presence of lump at the breast or the nipple discharge. According to the â€Å"Merck manual†, most of the women diagnosed with breast cancer are found to have felt the presence of lump at the breast. The best screening method for DCIS is mammogram only.
